Ah, the idea of working from home sounds so engaging, doesn’t it? Get up, sip some green tea on the deck and fire up the laptop; check online sales and laugh all the way to the bank!
Well, that is a little overstated, but you can create the business of your dreams from home, with a solid commitment; a business plan, and a laser sharp focus.
Many people fail because they get so distracted – laundry, ringing phones, planning dinner, etc. Or, they over work themselves because they never establish boundaries.

The first step is getting your family on board. Talk about why, the goals and your expectations of how they can pitch in and be supportive. Make sure everyone understands honoring your work time and just because you are home doesn’t mean you are “available.”
The second step is the planning. Create a calendar and if the entire family can glance at that calendar, and know what’s going on when, it will cause way less stress in the home. Less stress, means more time for you to focus.
This will also mean way less interruptions for you while working at home. This way, everyone knows what is expected of them, and what hours they will need to fend for themselves around the house.

Now that the family is all organized, it’s time for you to organize your time. You will have so many temptations with working from home.

You might be sitting at your desk, then glance over and see a huge mountain of laundry, and think, I can just go throw this in and come back to this. That is what you do not want to be doing all day. That 15 minute laundry break is cutting into your productive time.
Your calendar is your best friend for making sure you stay on track, or at least in theory.
Plan each day the night before so you know exactly what steps you will be taking and you aren’t wasting time figuring out what to do next.
Working from home is a dream come true, if you set it up right from the beginning NOT to be a nightmare.
